‘Make or Break in Marrakesh’ A Romantic Comedy for the modern age

This is the new, exciting, laugh out loud novel from acclaimed writer Ian Parson. At a time when we could all use a laugh this book is just the tonic

Make or Break in Marrakech

This is a modern day romantic comedy for those who like their romance to be tragic and their comedy to be dark. Comedy characters from North London of this quality have not been seen since Nick Hornby wrote ‘About a Boy’ and ‘High Fidelity’.

Justin has scoured North London searching for love.

Trudy has been emotionally hurt, but is ready to dip a toe back in the dating pool.

They barely know each other when Justin suggests a trip to Morocco.

Trudy has doubts but admits it sounds exciting. What could possibly go wrong?

She imagines swopping London in wintertime for cocktails by the pool.

She does not foresee cockroach-infested showers; a camel fight that leaves her splattered with blood, or her daughter turning feral.

Justin had only suggested the trip because he was stoned. He hadn’t considered the consequences, he never does.

He isn’t used to children. Who knew they were so irrational, so childish?

Does it really matter if hotels have hot water or babysitters fall asleep at the beach?

Once forced to show consideration for others Justin realises he doesn’t care for it.

However, realising you’ve made a mistake changes nothing from deep in the eye of the storm.

Trudy is stuck in a nightmare. But she’s here now; she has to make the most of it, for the children. She takes comfort from the knowledge that when the trip is over she’ll never have to see him again.

Justin is convinced the teething problems will iron themselves out. He fully believes that she is the one.

They can’t both be right.

Relationships are tricky. A lot leave innocents devastated in their wake.

Fortunately for the rest of us there is comedy in every tragedy.
